Day 324 | Entire Creek: entire, except for the water

81 km | zzOz total: km

Beautiful campsite last night on the creek near, but not under, some large River red gums, they are prone to dropping limbs without notice, I’ve heard of a few despatched that way back in Victoria.

Met Brian the grader driver making my life easier, well for 20 km, at the start of the unsealed section of highway, which lasts until 10 km out of Boulia. He was extremely cheery and told me about each water tank along the way, as well as the names and natures of the local station owners I may encounter, as far as the border which is his patrol.

He works 6 weeks on, 10 days off, when he drives home.

Where’s that? Alice?

Nah, 1300 km from Alice down to the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. And he first has to drive to Alice from where he’s parked the grader.

He urged me to go to some station, they have a terrific aboriginal art gallery but it’s a 100 km detour and I’ve had enough of them for a while, having only come 350 km from Alice via my curious route.

The Queensland border is about 330 km.

The highway, unsealed, more a track really, is great in parts and soft ad choppy in others. 80 km looks as if it will be a mighty day’s effort in the week to come.

At least I’m steering due east now for the next few weeks.

Fauna spotted: 2 dingos, 60 km apart and 1 yellow faced whip snake.
