Day 228 | finally after 19 days: Derby: it's been quite an excursion

109 km | Heading west total: 10,367 km

The Gibb River Road was terrific.

In the end my only regret was that because I spent so much time on the Kununurra to Mt Barnett Roadhouse stretch I wasn’t prepared for heading up to the Mitchell Plateau and on to Kalumburu, a 500 km extension to the trip.

That would have added another week or two over a few rough 4WD tracks.

The avoidance was as much due to being so late in the Dry Season, the temperatures and humidity have really gone up since Sebastien was walking down the Drysdale River in late July and early August.

19 days on dirt roads with the afternoon temperatures regularly hitting 38° or 39°C has proved to be sufficient.
