Day 400 | Alau Beach: ain't moving

rest day

There’s a reason there’s nothing much on the supermarket shelves, the barge from Cairns hit a reef last week and supplies are low.

I can see there’s no milk or a lot of staples. There’s no diesel someone said.

The news is that the replacement barge has just docked and restocking will happen this afternoon. One of the few things the local store at Umagico had left along with vinegar and bleach was Shellite, which I wasn’t exactly looking for, thinking I’ll never find it up here, so now I have enough to get back to Cairns.

I headed into the grocery store, supermarket would stretch the truth, in the main settlement, Bamaga, population 800, which had some omissions, nothing that wasn’t in a jar to go with my nightly pasta fix, it’s just a few aisles with mostly cans or bottles of varieties of Coke, I’m thinking I’ll be eating rice on the way south.

The 3rd supermarket at Seisia had not only stock of most things I need but also much better prices.

I lost a fair amount of weight on my way north and I don’t want to lose too much more heading south.

I’m certainly going to be losing weight from the wallet before I leave.
