bike bits - mudguards

Useful to stop the stones flicking up from your front wheel as you bomb on down the long dirt road.

At least on the front.

The back mudguard is another story. Some ditch that one to save a little weight.

It makes sense. After all the back rack and pack stops the usual muddy stripe appearing down your back in the rain.

But if it’s raining on those unsealed roads you might not be making much progress. If you are hit with rain out there, it’s usually a dumping rather than a sprinkle. A short deluge. And not much shelter to be found.

Best bet is to make tracks for the Dry Season up north for the winter.
