Day 75 | Tropic of Capricorn Exmouth Road: he's finally gone troppo

104 km | zzOz total: 3,569 km

Another half day pedalling up the main highway with the considerable traffic almost all towing something, 3 trailers behind a prime mover, seems 4 aren’t allowed on this road, caravans, or, off-road camping trailers, very popular, and for some reason there’s been a proportion of boats.

Almost everything motorised appears powered by diesel.

The next town on the highway is Karratha, (644 km from Carnarvon, with 3 roadhouses on the way), although I imagine a fair proportion of the mining traffic turns at the Nanutarra Roadhouse, and heads up to Parabadoo, Tom Price, or further on to Pannawonica, ie, this really is travelling remote.

To me it seems a huge amount of traffic, something every minute, sometimes in a bunch, those long roadtrains, each way, but for the most part the drivers are polite.

The mirror gets a good workout, particularly with oncoming traffic, once I took the clever option of clearing completely off the road, when 2 roadtrains crossed in my proximity.

I turned off onto the Milalya Exmouth Road, heading for Coral Bay, and, Exmouth, narrower, no shoulder, much less traffic.

When you get that hooting tailwind, well, make the most of it.
