Day 383 | Stewart River crossing: out alone for once

88 km | zzOz total: 10,796 km

The Peninsular Development Road is somewhat different from other major unsealed roads I’ve travelled, Tanami, Oodnadatta Tracks, Plenty Highway and Great Central Road, etc.

Traffic.

And plenty of it.

I shared the Musgrave roadhouse campsite with 30+ vehicles last night and this morning, being among the first away it wasn’t long until a regular cavalcade of big, brutish 4WDs were zipping past. Before long last night’s companions were followed by others from further afield. Later they thinned but then picked up from the south bound lot, done with their Pilgrimage, cruising back to civilisation at quick pace.

The traffic makes it awkward to do the usual wandering across the full width of the road, it’s not so long since the road was graded but with the constant traffic it’s getting corrugated for some, mostly shortish, parts.

Despite last night’s short but heavy rain the dust didn’t take long to make an appearance.

My suntan has returned.
