Day 91 | On the shore of the Exmouth Gulf: Finally making tracks for the interior

30 km | zzOz total: 4,115 km

A third farewell to CJ in 3 months, this time I’m the stationery one, well, I’m not leaving at sparrow’s fart, ie, pre-dawn, and now it’s also time to finally say farewell to the Indian Ocean for that challenge of the interior of this huge, surprising continent.

There’s a “strong” easterly wind, starts just after midnight but fortunately has the tendency to evaporate by mid-day, leaving a 30° afternoon of balmy bliss.

No worries there in the immediate term, I’m heading south for 90 km, and intending to camp not so far out of town on the beach again tonight. But then in coming days I’ll be smashing directly east, probably headwinds for the next two months.

There’s some further supplies to pack aboard, ie, bigtime water and a kilo or two of spaghetti.

CJ has custody of the essentials found to be rather less essential than originally anticipated, making space for said water supply. Water will be a real issue, I’ll be knocking on the sporadic station doors, about 50 km apart in these desolate parts, as I point my front wheel towards Mt Augustus and then Meekatharra.

No internet connection for the next 860 km but I’ll have a whole bundle of stories about my little adventure and those random characters I meet on my path to post when I finally struggle into internet reception once again.

See you then.
