Day 35 | Sandford Rocks: yeah, more of these lumps

66 km | zzOz total: 1,813 km

Full moon rising over the rock, sound of 10,000 frogs broadcasting their desires without the use of Facebook or Twitter, a few ringneck parrots making an occasional nuisance of themselves, otherwise on my lonesome.

Somewhat different from last night in Merredin’s upmarket caravan park, adjacent to the Great Eastern Highway, conduit to the Kalgoorlie gold and nickel mining areas, and the eastern states, the night’s shuddering trucks, changing down through the gears coming down the slope into town. Just beyond the highway the main intercontinental railway line indicating it’s used extensively for freight transportation whatever the time of day.

Full moon, amenity lights, doors slamming, engines revving, the petrol ones anyway, cars coming and going.

I didn’t care, just popped off to sleep as usual.

Listened to the radio until first light, then listened some more. Same topic, the world’s highest creators of carbon dioxide per capita by a long shot, ie, Australians, thinking someone else has to lower their consumption first, maybe the Indians, or China. Does seem to be a lack of oxygen to the debate.

I headed out on the highway, heading east, better make some progress considering I’m less than 260km from Perth after 1700km of pedalling, a huge shoulder to cope with the trucks, then 12km with none, that’s both shoulder, and for some reason, luck no doubt, no trucks.

Later the bearing on the trailer wheel required attention, one side in a bad way, it’s the only part of the assembly that didn’t get a full going over before departure. Added grease, tightened and crossed fingers.

Hope I can nurse it along until I can acquire a replacement.
