Day 553 | Mildura: somewhere down by the river

40 km | zzOz total: 17,830 km

So I’ve snuck back into Victoria via the back door.

A last minute reminder about travel in these thorny parts along the river. I took to the road, Silver City Highway, early on with its considerable traffic and then noticing an unsealed but quite OK bike trail, cut down to it cross country and later regretted it: my rear tyre is wearing now and no match for the heavy duty thorns around here, another flat tyre, half a dozen of the prickles turning the CrossMark into a pin cushion, one going all the way.

The Mondial on the front has no such issues, the extreme depth of the tread discouraging penetration, if they miss the solid bit there’s no force to drive those tacks home. I might end up swapping the tyres, it’s certainly much easier to change a front end flat than the rigmarole getting access to the rear and then bundling it all up subsequently.

Avoiding the thorns would be sensible, discipline needed there, but it’s much easier said than done.

Major tasks today were firstly stocking up with big supermarket food, gee, they have some great stuff in there, I forgot, then sitting in the well appointed library finally updating blogs, no hassles about the use of the electrons.

It’s supposed to be 40ÂșC tomorrow so I guess I’ll be back, ticking off a few things on that To Do (Digital) List.
