Day 258 | Hamersley Gorge carpark, Karijini NP: it can be difficult to camp legally when you don't have fast transport

18 km | Heading west total: 11,887 km

A couple of days ago on an otherwise deserted dirt road a guy stopped his caravan and got out to ask if I was OK.

Terrific. How was Karijini?

Biggest disappointment of my trip, he said.

Oh, I’d better turn back then.

One of the Kakadon’t types who expects to see everything from a 4WD with the motor still running.

Well, I can report that the Hamersley Gorge is just astonishing. The walls look as if they have been constructed from Playdoh. Layered and then smeared around and about 2.5 billion years old.
