Day 480 | Birdsville: with the feet up

rest day

How is it I’m still here with this raging northerly blowing?

That’s just how it works out, you can’t just drop into a joint like this and then scurry off, although plenty do to tick the pub box, I’m not so interested in the wind, I’ve got to try that curried camel pie.

Well it get’s the thumbs up from me, now the rush from the recent Birdsville Races is over, the tourist flood is waning as it heats up, it’s been high 30ºCs in recent days, maybe touched 40ºC, I speak to the owner who says they are used to the crush now after years of practice, they set up three tills and just accept the dosh which flows, the queue can stretch 300 m.

I try the kangaroo pie as well, that’s yummy, nothing like a good road kill feast for your standard, mostly, vegetarian bike tourer.

I also hit the pub for sunset, some are already getting underway for a memorable, or not, night, I restrain myself to a single beer, legendary places can come at a considerable cost.

Great to have the Birdsville experience, but I’m off south tomorrow no matter what the wind conditions.
