Day 107 | Barlangi Rock, Meekatharra Sandstone Road: What? Camping at another one of those rocks

85 km | zzOz total: 5,124 km

I could have sailed on for another hour even but when the opportunity of camping at yet another rock presented itself I thought, why not.

I had a walk up to survey the lay of the land, it’s really flattened out again.

The “rock” is a sandstone outcrop and an impressive sign states that it was formed about a billion years ago when a comet or massive meteorite smashed into the Earth at a velocity of about 20km/second. That managed to liquify the rock and after a period of erosion, voila: a bump that takes 10 minutes to climb.

Earlier, leaving Meeka, I had a surprise with the prettiest section of road through some “hills”, I’d call them undulations, lilac wildflowers in profusion, a mostly slightly downhill run and a road surface I’d give 7 or 8 out of 10.

Nice.
