Question 6 of 20 Questions is:

“How far do you go each day?”

People realise what a dumb question it is when you ask them.

“Oh, it varies of course.”

“Yeah, same with me.”

The road conditions, the wind, how hilly, the temperature, whether it’s raining, what time you got up, your mood, what you had for dinner last night, for lunch or breakfast today, your energy level, finding a great campsite, or water, or not, what you stop to see along the way, bike issues. Did I mention road conditions and wind? There’s a stack of variables.

The bike computer doesn’t lie but it’s better to judge your daily effort by time rather than distance.

5 hours riding time is a good day at the office. 6 hours, some overtime.

4 hours: take the afternoon off.
