Day 9 | Williams Collie road: just a bit further on

44 km | zzOz total: 428 km

Heading further south on the Williams Collie Road the farmland is beating a retreat and more bush adorns the side of the road.

More about weather and undulations.

A damp start with condensation dripping inside the tent and I resolve to stop early and dry out. This may not be as easy as it sounds, there’s dense cloud and the sun was not sighted after 10am.

Much up-ness today, but with not much wind, that leads, ipso facto, to plenty of flying down-ness.

I’ve become a little blase with the downwards direction, much has been long shallow runs, both up and down, OK, some granny cog is inevitable with my full caravan.

This morning I was roused from my torpor, tears streaming from my face as an unexpected grader hauler sneaked up behind and passed at great pace. I looked down and found I was exceeding 50km/hour, not an everyday occurrence, actually it’s only been achieved twice on my westward little adventure.

Application of brakes started a slight shimmy, that ain’t so good, I mentally prepared for a spectacular conclusion, but then thought what the hell, relaxed and decided to go with the flow. Grip those bars tight. Breathe deeply once the bike is under control.

I’ll have to pay more attention as the hills are becoming longer and steeper as I progress south.
