Day 408 | Sam Creek again: but a nicer campsite this time

28 km | zzOz total: 11,756 km

Two people on bikes travelling in opposite directions on the 2 rut Telegraph Track, how is it possible to not meet?

I’d heard yesterday that Mirjam had spent the night at Eliot Falls and was heading to the Jardine River to find an unlikely boat for the crossing.

When I hit the T intersection of the Telegraph Track, I’d come in on the link road from the main road last night there was a choice, turn left to go to the south bank of the Jardine River, that great campsite perch just above the river where I’d already spent two nights almost two weeks ago, the track a known sandpit at least for half of the 5km, or turn right and head directly for Nolans Brook, only 2 km away, the site of the entertainment with the colourful people with those cars getting swamped crossing the creek.

There were no bike tracks in evidence although it was 6 pm and already starting to get dark.

I opted for the terrific campsite, the Nolan Brook one is somewhat bogan, plus nothing much to get excited about. I therefore had a tranquil night on my lonesome, cruising in just as it became really dark. Mirjam never made it that far.

This morning I saw her newly minted tracks zipping around the corner of the T intersection as I made my way back from my cul-de-sac.

And that’s how we didn’t meet up a second time.
