Day 446 | Karumba: time for some food and a shower

45 km | zzOz total: 13,663 km

Quick roll into Karumba for a touch of civilisation, it’s flat, treeless Brolga country here, I spot 300+ in a couple of hours, one swarm of 150 take off and do a flyby to honour my arrival. It’s OK to have a swish around in a greenish tinged waterhole, or lie in the warm flowing river for a while but occasionally a shower is good policy. Let’s start the month well.

There’s some research to find out where I should stay, I head to the local info place, accommodation info of my type, ie, questions about amenity and price prove too difficult but I at least learn there are 3 places I can put up my tent, and the info joint is also the town library, I can use a power point to charge my computer and find using the internet my spot for the next few nights. It’s all self help here.

The two out of town, down at the point, charge for two minimum, I take the one in town, plenty of shade, a camp kitchen, spare power everywhere, a picnic table to claim, it’s Paradise at $17 a night.

I’ll ride down the 8 km to the point tomorrow and catch up on all the blogs, over a week is outstanding.

I celebrate civilisation by going to Karumba’s pub for dinner: the Animal Bar is lively on a Saturday night, the pool cues look like they’ve had a hard life, and move into the Suave Bar for a standard humungous meal.

I note this: blokes are real men around here.
