Day 336 | Hamilton Hotel ruins: the generator drones on

79 km | zzOz total: 8,741 km

I’m sharing a rest area with the largest caravan I’ve seen in a while, 3.5m boat on the 4WD roof, they’ve colonised the two picnic tables and the generator is occupying the air waves.

This is what it’s like back with the caravan dwellers.

I’ve been contemplating a variation on my travels to Winton, 360 km or so, I looked at the road at the turnoff to Diamantina Lakes National Park, it all looked quite possible.

It means abandoning this single lane, ie, 3.6 m wide, sealed road for a 155 km dirt road little adventure to head over to the Lark Quarry Conservation Park to check out some 95 million year old dinosaur footprints, then 110 km on another dirt road to Winton.

Rumour has it this site inspired the dinosaur stampede scene in “Jurassic Park”, but then again film makers often have vivid imaginations.

95 million year old dinosaur footprints, can’t just cycle past that.
