Day 93 | Emu Creek Station, Towera Road: finding a spot to camp in the spinifex in a drainage channel

98 km | zzOz total: 4,311 km

OK, so I overachieved in the food department.

The dawning reality is the bike is near uncontrollable with the full two week food supply and 27 litres of water aboard, the load all at the back and the steering, how do I describe this, delicate, there’s not much weight up front over the front wheel, in fact the front suspension does little to aid in maintaining the whole caravan on a straight trajectory.

Another cloudless, hugely windy day, often crosswinds, around 30°C. I drank about 5 litres of water over the course of today, the slightly salty nature of the drop results in frequent stops for further imbibing. Drink but not super refreshing.

27 litres is sufficient for 2 nights out, 3 full days riding, that will see me a bit along the dirt road, after that I’m going to make do with dragging 16 or so max.

There seemed to be a few windmills along the way with some stock nearby indicating that there will be water points around.

There’s cattle stations all the way past Mt Augustus and watertanks are usually reasonably close to the road. If cattle can down it, the water should be OK for humans as well, pity the water filter can’t remove salt from the fluid.

The water situation is a bit unknown, but a small element of tension is what makes the journey a little adventure.
