Day 522 | Near Birdwood: on the side of an unused parallel road

48 km | zzOz total: 16,922 km

Guess it wasn’t quite so far as I thought I might today but in the close settled Adelaide Hills when I spotted an OK campsite, one as good as you get around here, I declined a further hour’s pedalling, maybe it will come back to haunt tomorrow.

It’s probably my last night out bush camping for a while, Adelaide tomorrow, I’ll be there a while as I attempt to get my podcasts a happening thing and tap out what I’ve written for the Birdsville Track, and some embellishments for the Mawson, etc.

Highlight of the day: riding along the High Eden Road, home of one of the most famous Rieslings in Australia, Leo Buring’s Leonay, with views down into the Eden Valley itself.

On the other hand maybe I was distracted as I rattled down my first stretch of real downhill on that beautiful limestone road when there were some disconcerting moments as the front wheel drifted through a ridge of loose stones and steering, despite the speed, became decidedly wobbly. My feet went down, somehow the tyres started gripping and I’ve survived for another day.

Lucky.
