Day 473 | Back to Boulia: but not much has changed

47 km | zzOz total: 14,853 km

It’s a rarity when it all comes together with this bike riding: I had one day zooming on my way to Karumba, err, and today.

Pity it won’t last long.

It’s been an easterly wind mostly since I left Mareeba 5 weeks ago, fine when I was moving west and not so bad when my direction turned to the south.

But today I had one day when the wind, of the monumental kind, came from the north.

Combine that with a slight downhill and I had a couple of hours of fun shooting along the last 45 km into town.

I’m more or less compelled to maintain my position here at the crossroads of my travels, I was here back in May when I was finishing the Plenty Highway crossing from Alice Springs, for two nights, it’s the AFL Grand Final tomorrow and you have to stick around in a small country town to enjoy that. I can plot my odd trajectory of my travels by locations where I’ve joined the pub audience on my travels: Derby a few years ago, Leonora last year, I guess I must have been somewhere nondescript in Perth when I was there, it wasn’t totally memorable.

I’ve never been attracted to Hawthorn, the favourites, due to their dowdy brown and gold colours, I mean, brown, really, white and red is somewhat more dramatic.

On the mighty Swans! but the reality is I don’t mind who wins, as long as the big projection screen doesn’t waver wildly every time any hard drinking fluoro-shirted patron from the crowd needs to use the urinal like last year.

Just hope it’s a full on game.
