Day 40 | into the Barossa Valley: try saying Nuriootpa

58 km | Heading west total: 1,526 km

Gee. I’ve come to the Barossa and only asked to drink Riesling in my winery visits. (Umm … The Barossa is Australia’s most famous red wine area.)

First up at Jacobs Creek I was apparently a bit of a shock appearing on my bike but I did get to taste the 2007 Steingarten from the vines I saw being picked today. Quite delicious.

Then off to Richmond Grove for the last 20 minutes before closing. They appreciated my taste more and gave me some 2004 (great), 2007 and even some unreleased 2008. All good.

At Peter Lehmann they totally understood and let me have some 2004 & 2008 Eden Valley. Then they suggested some 2002 Reserve Semillon. They appreciated my enthusiasm for recognising some fine drops. They nodded their heads when I talked of my love of the 2001 Blue Eden. One of my all time favourites.
The difference between good and outstanding is significant, the intense flavours just linger.

Might as well take advantage of the attributes of the area while I can.
